    Sign Bregman. Trade Nico (and I hate to say that because I love him), and our number 2 and 5 prospect to Padres for Cease. Move Shaw to second. Done deal. In a second. Puts us on par with the Dodgers. That’s what you want. That’s what I want

    I don't know what you guys are thinking. Shaw has not done anything in the majors at all. I seriously think he will be a bust the first half of the season. I don't trust Busch, PCA or Amaya to take the next step. I think the bottom half of the lineup is weak with a low ceiling for this year.

    if the cubs, trade Nico and sign Bregman and then in 2026 they have no Bregman, No Nico, No Tucker, and let's say Busch sucks and Shaw sucks. or they are really not performing. So trading Nico is just absolutely stupid. You want DEPTH on this damn team. With Bregman, Nico, Shaw, Dansby, Suzuki...etc., the team has depth if something happens to anyone. You don't sacrifice a gold glove and 30 steals and 30 doubles with Nico to save 4 million dollars. Really really ignorant. You say Nico does not slug. You got Albies and Simien who really slug at 2nd base. And the dude from AZ is the best all around guy probably. But Nico 's don't grow on trees and Shaw is nothing but a guy with potential. So was Mervis.

    • @MINNESOTA_PTSD
      @MINNESOTA_PTSD 3 дні тому

      You just compared Mervis to Shaw ???? An undrafted player to a 1st RD pick ??? It discredits your entire argument. And even if you had made an accurate comparison, your argument stems from valuing .500 ball above the risk at being worse, trying to win. 83 wins. 63 wins. Are the exact same thing. NOT GOOD ENOUGH

    • @johnlenon8872
      @johnlenon8872 2 дні тому

      @@MINNESOTA_PTSD The comparison is just they are the same in that they are both prospects. Lots of first round picks don't do shit. Then you have a ninth rounder become a star. What I am saying is don't give up on Nico right this second. We don't know if Shaw will be as good or better than Nico but I'd rather have both of them on the team. Shaw will get starts and playing time at 3rd and 2nd. But if Bregman comes along great. Having more talent is better than less. Cubs will know at the trading deadline where they are. Are they good. Is Shaw good. PCA had alot of upside and it turns out he needed some more AAA time. He got called up and did terribly but the talent was there and now he is pretty good, a star in the making. I do not value .500 ball but with Shaw and Nico and Dansby etc., the team have a better shot at winning 92 games let's say. Agree, 83 and 63 are the same. Watching the playoffs on the couch. Not good enough. concur.

    So this is wonky If year 1 pays 35M and Alex opts out then the CBA goes towards 2026 not 25. So from what has been reported they are looking at a 4/105 deal. So 26+M on CBA. But year 1 will be 35M of it and every year after Alex can opt out I am guessing 35M/25M/25M/20M. That gives them 5.5M under tax After that you have to look at the pen. Some of these players given arb are going to be bubble guys with no options left. Thompson and Merryweather are not the clear favorites. Ranking the pen right now 9th is Pressley all the way 8th as is has to be Brasier 7th Hodge That leaves 5 pen arms. Rea will get a slot. Most hope that Brown takes the 5 as he is not just a innings soaker but you want that piggy back pitcher to lessen Brown's total innings. Morgan I see as the main 6th inning arm. Theibar main lefty. 2 left. Assad and Wicks are bubble guys at this point. Good depth arms at Iowa to fall back on for injury Now 2nd lefty. Little is in the mix. Has options. Miller is another bubble guy. Side arm so a little variance from the typical pitcher. My opinion is keep it flexible and kick Merryweather and Thompson to DFA. Cubs are not losing much keeping Pearson, Miller, Little, Roberts, Killian etc all on a situational list. Say the Current series is left hand heavy so Little and a RH pitcher that pitches well against lefties. Next series adjust to attack their weaknesses. And so on. Locking in on players with no options and not better is foolish. Plus they are soaking needed payroll flex

    As a fan, I'm done with Hoerner. I've seen enough of his punch and judy hitting for one lifetime. I don't care about fielding. As long as you have minimally acceptable fielding, you're fine. The Dodgers proved that last season. Hitting is king. You sink or swim with scoring runs. They have a potential star in Shaw. Why screw around and make him play a position he's not completejy comfortable with? Make him a fixture at second, get Bregman to play third, move Nico for salary relief and a decent pitcher, and watch the wins pile up. This isn't complicated.

    Seeing what Pete Alonso got, I can see Bregman signing with the Cubs for a front loaded, year one opt out, short term contract to coincide with Kyle Tucker and Pressly 1 year deals. All in for 2025. Bregman - 3 years/$90m with 38m in year one with an opt out. That's what Boras will want for Bregman is my guess based on past deals like Correa, Snell, Chapman, Alonso.

      Only difference is Alonso is not really want to leave Mets, as for Bregman he is ready to move on from Astros. So it is easier to get a bargain deal done if you know Alonso will try everything to get back to Mets.

    Great work breaking down the bullpen situation!! With the plethora of depth they now have in both starting and relief pitching, assuming they get the Bregman deal done and a trade accomplished to move Hoerner,they would be able to deal from a position of strength, in trading some nice pieces to the Padres for Cease. Yes I would like my cake, and to be able to eat it too. !! Go Cubs Go !!

      I’d rather have King, Cease would be a 1 year rental and to extend him will be $$$$

      I’d rather see Cease in Cubbie blue. In a short playoff series, Steele, Cease, Imanaga can beat the Dodgers or any other team. King or Taillion are not in that category. Nobody’s beating the Dodgers over 162, but the playoffs are a completely different animal. I’m putting the cart before the horse and thinking about the NLCS with Steele, Cease, Imanaga.

      You’re being selfish. You want the Cubs to go all in as if only 2025 matters. Steele is a 2 pitch pitcher that would get lit up like a christmas tree in the postseason.

      @@MINNESOTA_PTSD With the days off in the playoffs, your rotation is shortened to 3. Having 3 horses, then an arms race. Cease is a 1. Steele's peripherals solidify him as 1. Imanaga is a 2. The Cubs will win the division this season. Winning playoff series is done by planning now. The farm has been developed to be able to pounce when the opportunity arises. The opportunity has risen.

    Bergman fits the payroll and lineup. I hope it happens.

      Cubs are not going to sign Ingrid Bergman or Ingmar Bergman, but they might sign Alex Bregman.

    The "human element"..... First time I have heard this term. I would reckon the Cubs (Wrigley) have the edge with this in a high percent of the cases.

    Michael Canter on Cubs Insider is reporting Cubs and Bregman reached a deal. Any truth to this report?
